This is a great question and it is one discussed quite often with our DanceStep students in their training sessions. If you ask any of them they will be able to tell you from their own experiences why it is so important to come to dance in uniform and with hair pulled back into a Ballet Bun.

So to help you when your dancer says they don’t want to wear uniform or have their hair pulled back, below are just a few of the reasons our students and teachers have set uniforms:

  • Uniform means dancers don’t have to make a decision about what is an appropriate item of clothing to wear to class. The decision is already made for you!
  • Uniforms have been chosen to ensure they are both safe for dancing in and also ensure our teachers can see the alignment of the dancer’s body to ensure they are not doing steps incorrectly and may cause injury to themselves.
  • Uniforms, especially tights, are an important consideration when students are being asked to extend their legs to second. Tights and jazz shorts ensure that our dancers have appropriate covereage and feel comfortable when sitting in a second position.
  • Hair secured back in a Ballet Bun or pony tail if the hair is too short for a Ballet Bun mean that the hair does not flick the students in the eyes.
  • The use of Bobby Pins to secure fly aways means students aren’t fiddling with their whispy bits during exercises.

The most important thing to note about wearing uniform and hair secured is that it eliminates distraction for our dancers so their full focus can be on what they are learning.

Happy Dancing,

Miss Kelly
